The driver
First and foremost, it’s important to ensure you’re in compliance to ride an electric scooter.
The minimum age for riding in the city is 12 years old. Yes, the electric scooter is a motorized vehicle, so it’s not suitable for younger kids. Also, make sure to equip yourself and wear a helmet on the road (wind-in-the-hair rides aren’t happening anytime soon...).
Civil liability insurance shouldn’t be overlooked either when you're riding: for your safety and others'.

Where can I ride?
Where to ride legally? Well... not everywhere!
The bike lane is obviously the priority path for all two-wheelers. However, if you don’t find any bike lanes nearby, you are allowed to ride on roads limited to less than 50km/h.
It is also possible to ride on pedestrian areas when there’s no bike lane, but in this case, you must not exceed 6km/h.

Electric scooter sharing services: the Paris case
On April 2nd, Parisians headed to the polls to express their opinion on the case of shared electric scooters. A nearly unanimous vote, with over 89% voting against their use.
Starting September 1st, 2023, you will no longer find shared electric scooters in the capital. Paris is not the first major city to ban their rental, and many other cities are expected to follow.
This ban does not prevent you from buying your own personal electric scooter.
« Tonight, the people of Paris have overwhelmingly spoken out against free-floating scooters. Their very clear message becomes our roadmap from now on. With my team, we will follow through on their decision. »
- Anne Hidalgo, Mayor of Paris

Maintain your vehicle!
Just like a car, regularly serviced and checked, it's equally important to take care of your vehicle. For the safety of others, but especially your own, remember to regularly check the reliability of your brakes, battery, and tires.
It is also mandatory to equip your bike with a braking system, a horn, lights (front and rear), and rear and side reflectors.
And don't forget, all this is for the safety of everyone.
You’re all set to hit the road! Equipped with your helmet, scooter, and all the rules in mind... you’re now a pro at riding an electric scooter!
